It’s far enough outside Chaing Mai that you don’t get seduced by the attractions of Loi Kroh, but easy to get to for a dose of Western Starbucks/icecream/McDonalds if you fancy it at the weekend. Accom was pretty cheap at 3000bt for a decent sized but basic apartment walking distance from the gym – another 1000 got you a/c tv etc Western style in the nieghbouring village.
Either way you’d be hard pressed to spend 30,000 baht a month. I think it worked out nearer 13,000baht for gym, rent and eating at the gym all in.
Training is as hard as you make it – the runs are quite nice up there cos its pretty rural and the locals still seem amused by Westerners huffing and puffing past – and there was plenty of pad time each session at your pace. I trained with Doh, who was happy to stop/start, picking up faults and endlessly correcting them, which was very helpful. “
