It was one of those fights that make you stop in your tracks and watch. You savour every minute of every round until the final bell. Not a second passed that you were certain of the winner, because there was always a chance that the fight would turn. It was Thanonchanok Kaewsamrit versus Lisa Brieley for the WMPF 112lbs world title at the Queen’s birthday show in Bangkok.
The fight started off even, each fighter feeling the other out. In the second round Thananchok landed some devastating leg kicks to her European foe, causing visible distress. But what happened next changed the course of the entire fight.
Lisa Brierley stepped back awkwardly and sprained her knee. The referee jumped in for a count, but Brierley got up and miraculously managed to finish the round. Going into round three you weren’t really sure what to expect; Brierley pulled it together and took the fight to the Thai champion.
